Bernie Wolter - Instructor

Bernie Wolter is a retired Lieutenant from the Des Plaines Police Department. His career included duties from Patrol Officer to Patrol Division Commander, including Commander of the SWAT team.

Bernie was born in West Berlin, Germany and his family emigrated to the United States in 1961 after the erection of the Berlin Wall. He is fluent in German. He graduated from Palatine High School and immediately following joined the Navy in September 1965. He was stationed aboard a destroyer and served a two and a half year tour of duty in Vietnam. Subsequently, Bernie graduated from Georgetown University in Washington DC. Bernie worked at several different jobs prior to joining the Des Plaines Police Department in 1975.

Bernie was introduced to Danny Halligan by fellow officer Matt McNamara. Bernie was so impressed by Danny's physical skills, that he contracted him to train the Des Plaines Police Department SWAT team.

In 1999, Bernie became a traditional student of Danny's Wing Chun kung fu and he has assisted Danny with numerous law enforcement physical skills training seminars.

Being the most senior ("OLDEST") of Danny's students, and with age not being a factor in the training, Bernie plans on continuing training and teaching for many more years.
