Matthew McNamara - InstructorMatthew W. McNamara is currently Deputy Chief of Operations, D.C.S.I., at the Cook County Sheriff's Department in Chicago, Illinois, the second largest sheriff's department in the United States. He is on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Tactical Officer's Association and within the association he is the chairman of the Physical Skills Committee. During his career he has been assigned as an investigator in the Internal Affairs Division, detective in the Criminal Investigations Division, Undercover Narcotics Unit, and is a former assault team leader on his department's tactical response team. Matthew is certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) to instruct in the following disciplines; Assault Rifle Instructor, Hand to Hand Physical Skills and Tactical Combatives, Use of Force, Mental Preparation for Confrontation, and Rapid Deployment to Armed Confrontation. Matthew is recognized by the ILETSB as having areas of instructional expertise in trigger manipulation, shooting and moving, weapon's nomenclature, hand to hand combat, hand to hand fighting principles and applications, physical skills/tactical combatives for law enforcement officers, and use of force. Along with teaching for the State of Illinois and dozens of departments throughout the Midwest, Matthew has been a guest instructor for the Department of Defense sponsored Undercover Investigation School at the Regional Counterdrug Training Academy located at the Meridian Naval Air Base, Meridian, Mississippi. Matthew has also been invited to teach Use of Force and Mental Preparation for Confrontation at the 2004 Texas Tactical Police Officers Association's annual conference which is attended by over 600 law enforcement officers from across the United States. Matthew has been called to testify as an expert in use of force and mental preparation for armed confrontation on behalf of police involved in federal civil law suits. He has been awarded dozens of awards and letters of recognition including an Award of Excellence for Superior Performance and a Departmental Commendation for Valor. Matthew's relationship with Danny started while he was working undercover narcotics and gang investigations full-time. Matthew quickly came to the realization that because his drug transactions normally occurred in very close quarters such as small vehicles, he was in danger of being shot, robbed, or stabbed before his current skills would have allowed him to take action and save himself from harm. After stating these concerns to one of his best friends who also happened to be one of Danny's most senior Wing Chun students, an introduction was made. Matthew was so overwhelmed with Danny's humility and skills that he immediately began taking instruction from Danny. After inviting Danny and his advanced student's to come to Chicago and teach the entire SWAT team, Matthew and several other SWAT members began taking Wing Chun as traditional students of Danny's and this training continues today. |
